The Blackish actress who received the award for Fierce and Fearless award at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon, spoke about perfection and self acceptance. In her speech she talked about how she was not supposed to be at the award due to loss of her voice two days ago. She spoke about how she realized that even without her voice she was still a person. She also encouraged the women in the audience that being perfect was not the ultimate goal and that the idea should be embraced. She added that, "We should remind ourselves in daily life to make space for selfhood". She went on to say that, "Boobs do not belong up here, they belong down here. This is where God put them. I am human. I listen to fear and lean into it. I dont always fell fierce but I do feel human" Here are some pictures from the luncheon.
